Life’s been busy since Western States. My condo closed on 8/8 without event and I moved just about everything into storage while still hobbling around. Managed to get my promotion packet in at the same time and ran the Soaring Eagle 50k on 7/17 and had a good time but a rough finish with my slowest time ever for a 50k, finishing just under 7 hours. Starting out – I thought I would have a new perspective on a 50k and go all-out, but my legs changed their tune around mile 10. I didn’t see anyone I knew other than Roger who always does a nice job as a race director.
No major running since then – some nice climbing at exit 38, a quick overnight in the Alpine Lakes and just returned from an incredible 5 days in the Enchantments. Pablo did great at White River with a strong finish.
Otherwise, lots of preparations for going to Nepal. We’ll be doing 3 weeks with UW undergraduates – trekking to Gokyo Ri in the Khumbu while learning about healthcare in Nepal. The course ends on 9/12 and on 9/13 Tandra, Alex, and I will return to the Khumbu and climb Island Peak.
I’ve purchased a SPOT II Satellite Messenger and am playing around with it – with the idea that it will keep friends and family informed during the trek and also serve as a personal locator beacon during the climb (we will have a GPS and Sat phone during the trek with us – so not much use as a PLB).
