Hopefully I will be updating this page sometime next week reporting a fun, yet challenging, traverse of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. (Update: Please see my trip report posted in a different place) I don’t have much time left to prepare so here are a couple thoughts.
This is a ~75 mile route with two significant bush whacking sections. If I am fast enough I will have hit these with daylight still remaining. This route was designed by Erich Sach http://www.thebalancedathlete.com/ and is part of the Ultrapedestrian.com 2014 Wilderness Challenge. The original route description is a downloadable word file that was posted in the facebook group.
Three people I respect a lot have tried this route (Christof Tseuscher tried it three times) and none have finished – which is why I am titling this ‘Attempt #1’. I am leaving early Friday morning from Snoqualmie Pass (thanks in advance to Jessica Kelley for the shuttle). I see this as a solo, self-supported attempt however I have received a lot of trail beta as well as GPS tracks and will be using this in the field. Thank you Christof for much of this.
I hope to hit the Enchantments and climb Asgard around dawn on Saturday and meet up later in Leavenworth to hang out with friends Pablo C., Stephanie G., and Dan L. My detailed notes have been passed on to them as well as others as a precaution. If things work well – you should be able to see me trying to follow the route on the embedded map below.
A larger version of the map below is available here. Once I am moving – the map should focus on my most recent tracks. It should also show the route I am attempting to follow.
Here is a view of the GPS tracks I hope to follow but rendered in Hillmap. Note that my location will not be displayed on this map – only the one above.
Here is a view of the GPS tracks I hope to follow but rendered in GPSFly – no way points apparently. Note that my location will not be displayed on this map – only the Delorme ne.
